Last Sunday I paid another visit to the Willamette River viewpoint at the foot of Broadalbin Street on Albany’s waterfront. Here’s what I found.
With a chain and padlocks, the metal grating on the platform’s railing had undergone an improvised, temporary repair. The railing was vandalized back in June, shortly after the viewpoint was reopened to public use.
A permanent fix is coming. Parks Director Kim Lyddane told me Tuesday that materials for the repair had been ordered.
As you will remember, this one and another viewpoint on the river were rebuilt as part of the $21.5 million Waterfront Project of the Central Albany Revitalization Area or CARA.

What would cause someone to leave their possessions and trash behind on the viewpoint’s bench?
As far as vandalism goes, this “heart project” seems kind of mild, but still.
The designers of the Waterfront Project called this viewing platform “Albany Landing.”
If you’re on the river, you can’t land there despite the name. But from the platform, you can get a good view of the Willamettte and the Albany bridges.
And the more visitors from the public the viewpoint gets, the less vandalism there is likely to be. (hh)

Those items are likely stolen. Whatever may have been of value was taken and thats what was left behind.
Sorry, Hasso, I’ll have to be satisfied with going to the docks and viewpoints there 30 years ago or more. I’m not going now, not with the belongings of probably homeless people at the scene. I’m not against homeless people; they are people, just like all of us. But, don’t want to encounter one who is maybe on drugs.
Keep the pictures and updates coming, though.
It was SO nice NOT hearing from someone for awhile. Now the nonsensical comments have returned.
