Night work on the Ellsworth Street Bridge in Albany starts either this Sunday or a week later, on April 1. There seems to be some uncertainty about the starting date.
For weeks ODOT has said the project to increase the bridge’s clearance above the road would start on March 24.
It repeated the message Friday afternoon with a press release that said: “Beginning Sunday, March 24, we’ll have nightly closures of the Ellsworth Street Bridge from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning. During the nighttime closures, both directions of traffic will use the Lyon Street Bridge. We’ll reopen the Ellsworth Street Bridge to traffic during the day.”
But on Friday, there was a big message board on Lyon Street advising that night work on the Ellsworth bridge would begin April 1.
Regardless of when it starts, daytime commuters should not be affected.
So when does the nighttime detour actually start? We’ll find out when flaggers tell motorists which way to go. (hh)
More importantly, when will they finish?
“To allow for the reconstruction of the overhead steel, the bridge will be closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sundays to Fridays through October.”
Yeah, right Ray. I wouldn’t hold my breath. When is the last time anything was done “on time” in Albany? We’ll be lucky if it’s done before Christmas.
They say October, which means early 2025. haha!
