Finished mural: Casting light in the dark

Written November 29th, 2022 by Hasso Hering

I got off the bike Monday afternoon to check on the completed mural on Southeast Second Avenue.

Now that Eileen Hinckle has finished her new mural in Albany, it’s time to take another look at the completed work.

In case you haven’t seen it, go take a look for yourself. It’s on the back wall of a storage building, on the north side of the street in the 700 block of Southeast Second Avenue, across the street from Cool’s Feed and Pet Supply.

If you don’t want she shadows of power poles to interfere with the painting, go see it on a cloudy day.

The last time I wrote about this, on Nov. 9, Eileen was still putting the finishing touches on the piece. But now it looks done, complete with her signature, website and credit to the Oregon Arts Commission.

Check out her website for the artist’s background and other murals she has done.

If this one symbolizes anything, it seems to me to be our drive to explore the world and cast light in the dark. (hh)

Helmet Man takes a look at the mural’s signature and credit line.

Here’s Eileen Hinckle as she was working on the piece on Nov. 9, 2022.

Thanks again for showing the art. The light shines on a stone/tombstone? which has inscription Y?. Ideas about meaning?

    • Jennifer Stuart says:

The Y and the question mark are shadows of the bramble branches in front of the boulder.

  7. Jeff B. Senders says:

for the benefit of the less intelligent, please explain the meaning of the Y ?
