If you’ve wandered around downtown Albany, as I was last week, you may have noticed that things are happening with the old city hall at Second Avenue and Broadalbin Street.
It would be interesting to know who has made offers to buy and develop the lot at 300 West First Ave. in Albany, the site of the former and now demolished downtown branch of Wells Fargo Bank.
It was just before 5 p.m. on Labor Day, and Eileen Hinckle was hard at work on her mural in downtown Albany. I passed by on my bike and stopped to take a look.
In case you’re keeping track, this is how far the demolition of the former bank building at First and Broadalbin in downtown Albany had progressed by Friday afternoon.
Maybe it’s not too early to start thinking about what will take its place when and if the former Wells Fargo Bank branch downtown is razed.
A year and a half ago, the City of Albany took out nine trees on Second Avenue behind the Oregon Department of Human Services building, just east of Lyon Street, and planned to replace them.

An evening bike ride through downtown Albany does not usually offer much in the way of attractions other than the general lack of traffic on the streets.
