When you hear that horn, you stop and wait

Written September 11th, 2026 by Hasso Hering

See the headlights down that track? It turned out to be the switcher out of the Millersburg yard.

There I was, crossing the old Oregon Electric rail line at Burkhart Street Thursday night when I heard the horn of an approaching train.

I stopped, looked back down the track and unlimbered my phone camera as quickly as I could. And then, well, you can watch along:

Okay, so I wasted a few minutes (and you did too if you watched the video). Big deal.

What else can you do when you hear a locomotive’s horn on an otherwise uneventful bike excursion through the wilds of old east Albany on a pleasant September night? (hh)

  1. Donald Kalina says:

I can hear the train conductor on his radio….Hey that old guy on the bike is watching us again….He’s the flock camera guy of Albany…trains have plates…right.???
