This is the site of a planned dental office on Pacific Place S.W. In the background across Pacific Boulevard, there’s the Albany YMCA.
“Quick question,” Nate Forbes asked via email. “There’s been a bunch of digging and tarping on the west side of Pacific Blvd SW near 32nd Ave SW, just across from the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA. Do you happen to know what’s going on there (construction, remediation, etc.) and who’s/what is behind it?”
The email came on Friday. As luck would have it, the Albany Community Development Department had just provided the answer.
On Wednesday the city published a notice that it had received an application for review of a site plan for a dental office on the undeveloped lot at 3250 Pacific Place S.W.
The application was filed by Willamette Dental, a company based in Hillsboro. The company says on its website that it has 50 offices in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, including one elsewhere in Albany.
Southwest Pacific Place is a cul de sac leading to a cluster of 15 residential townhouses on one side and, at the end, the dental practice of Drs. Jeffrey Carl and Austin Brunson. There are several other dental offices in the general vicinity on the west side of Pacific Boulevard.
Willamette’s site plan calls for the building to be on the southern half of its roughly three-quarter-acre tax lot. Twenty-one parking spaces are planned on the northern portion. The lot is across Pacific Boulevard from the playing fields and buildings of the Albany YMCA.
The city notified property owners within 300 feet of the Willamette Dental lot and invited their written comments by Nov. 5. The zoning of the lot, “office professional.” allows this planned use. Action on the site plan is up to the city planning staff. (hh)

Parking spaces are planned for this part of the Willamette Dental site. (That building in the left background is the office of my longtime dentist, Dr. Jeff Carl.)
