With two boats, workers attack the logjam under the railroad bridge on Wednesday morning.
Workers for Advanced American Construction on Wednesday made progress in dismantling the big logjam under the Albany railroad bridge.
After becoming aware of this project Tuesday afternoon, I went back on Wednesday to see the work in progress. Here’s what it looked like.
As you could see, this is pretty tricky work. In pulling logs from the pile and setting them adrift, the men in the work boats had help from a winch attached to heavy equipment parked on the Dave Clark Riverfront Path.
This jam accumulated over several winters and got bigger every year. Now that it’s being cleared away, you have to wonder how many years it will take for the same thing to happen again. (hh)

Here’s a wider shot of the operation as seen from the high riverbank Wednesday.

On the Clerk Path, a winch and cable helped pull logs free from the pile under the bridge.
So, they are setting logs adrift that are in various states of submergence? That seems criminally hazardous. Watch out boaters!
Seems like lighter fluid and a match would be easier.
you catch firewood in the santiam river
Yeah, doesn’t seem very safe to just set the logs adrift endangers boaters.
The logs are essential for fish habitat.
Nature placed the logs in the river.
