That’s a Christmas tree worth seeing

Written December 8th, 2025 by Hasso Hering

The hat was supposed to ward off heavy rain predicted Monday night, but the forecast fizzled.

If you haven’t been downtown lately, you ought to go there just to see the Albany Christmas tree at the corner of Second Avenue and Ferry Street.

I happened to be there Monday night. This short video was the result:

It’s an impressive tree. Don’t you agree? (hh)

Here’s another look, from a little farther away.

Nice pictures of you (hat and all) and the tree!

  2. FRR says:

Hasso, I forgot to ask you to talk to someone about the snowflake lights on 1st Street….some of them are not working. You know people at the City Hall. They should get those fixed, as it doesn’t look good for 3 or 4 of the snowflake lights to be burned out.

    • JCL says:

Alternatively, YOU could simply call city hall yourself and ask to be transferred to the department that handles the decorations. Parks or Public Works would be my guess.

      • FRR says:

And, or course whatever dept. handles the snowflake lights at City Hall knows they have some that are not working. They are used to fielding questions from Hasso. So, I don’t appreciate your condescending spiel telling me what to do. Thank you very much.

        • Ray Kopczynski says:

Yes, City staff “fields questions” from Hasso, as they do from anyone. Of course your city councilors will gladly do so too. Try it sometime.

          • FRR says:

You, especially, Ray, do not tell me what to try. You don’t know if I have talked to the city over the years about concerns or not. You just think you know every damned thing there is to know.

        • Cheryl P says:

Who peed in your Wheaties? There was ZERO condescension in JCL letting you know that you could call City Hall yourself.

  3. DPK says:

Very nice tree and star. Do you know what tree farm or forest they got it from, Hasso?

  4. Bessie Johnson says:

Best looking tree in years. Beautiful.

  5. Erin Dowell says:

It came from Toland Tree Farm

  6. Huber Kate says:

It’s the prettiest tree we’ve had in the 35 years we’ve lived here!!!

  7. chris j says:

The tree is beautiful. Please, if you have the funds and some free time bring elderly and/or disabled people to see it. Treat them to a meal or just a coffee. Many people are left alone this time of year due to lack of funds or family. We do this for some people ourselves. The oldest residents in Albany that have invested the most time and money get to enjoy it the least. We don’t need a city council to decide what the community does to make Albany a special place to live, that is our choice.

  8. Judy Draper says:

Just lovely. Loved the video Hasso. Good work Albany…..joyful as well as beautiful.
