The south leg of the walking and bike path between Albany Station and Swanson Park was built in 2015. Ever since then, the concrete blocks of the path’s retaining wall have proved irresistible to vandals with their spray cans.


Costly pathway turns into trashy walk

Sometimes you get the feeling it makes no sense to spend big money on public improvements as long as vandals and vagrants remain free — and motivated, if that’s the right word — to ruin them with spray paint and trash.


Station-Swanson path is open

The latest addition to Albany’s network of off-street paths is open. It’s the 600-foot link underneath the Pacific Boulevard viaduct between Albany Station and the open-air pool at Swanson Park.
