It’s been almost exactly four years since Albany’s urban renewal agency agreed to provide financial aid for the renovation of the Fortmiller Building downtown. Now the developers are ready to show off the result.

This house on Albany’s Salem Avenue, more than a century old, was destined to be gone by now, but its demolition has obviously been postponed. Instead of being razed, it’s getting its porches repaired.
Albany tries to cut red tape downtown

Two CARA projects seek extensions

Two projects supported by CARA, Albany’s downtown urban renewal district, are asking for additional time to get them done. The city staff is recommending approval of both, and the CARAÂ advisory board will take up the requests when it meets at 5:15 Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.

Creating the ‘Opera House Apartments’
When the remodeling of the former Spruce Apartments at 222 First Ave. S.E. is finished, they will be named the Opera House Apartments, and a plaque on the building will tell the story of this site in Albany history.
