Trestle crashes: No more excuses

Written January 19th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

There were never any good excuses for trucks hitting the trestle on Albany’s First Avenue, and as the video shows (after some wobbles inherent in one-handed videography while steering a bike) that’s even more true now that bright new flashing lights have been installed as an additional warning.

Crunched canopy: Not a simple case

Written January 12th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

It’s been a couple of months since a passing railroad maintenance truck got too close and mangled the canopy over the old entrance to the former St. Francis Hotel. Written June 20th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

At first glance, from afar, it looked like trouble with the Portland & Western trestle on First Avenue, where for decades trucks have now and then become stuck. But in this case, on Monday morning, trouble had done everybody a favor and stayed away.

To keep trains running: Trestle work

Written November 12th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Keeping a rail line in working order is a job that never ends. So the Portland & Western does frequent maintenance and repair work on the old Oregon Electric line that runs through Albany.
