On a bike ride up Pacific Boulevard this month I turned east on 29th Avenue, which ends at the railroad tracks after about 1,300 feet. There, this faded red artifact from Albany’s industrial past caught my eye.

It’s hard to think of a more direct form of “”economic development” than what the Albany City Council has now agreed to spend $2.9 million to support.

Council likes industrial training request

Several industrial companies with Albany addresses say they have trouble filling available jobs, and they’re asking the city council to pay for specialized equipment at Linn-Benton Community College so potential workers will be better trained.
