City to homeless: Park somewhere else

If you’re homeless and living in your car, where in Albany can you park? Not in the city’s so-called “Central Albany Parking Area,” which is near two homeless shelters and should be called the no-parking area instead.

This week I talked with Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan and District Attorney Doug Marteeny about how the Oregon legislature has managed to keep the public in the dark about a couple of things related to crime.

Where cyclist died, a ‘ghost bike’

If drivers pay attention as they pass the spot in Albany where Queen Avenue makes a turn and becomes Oakville Road, they now see a white bicycle chained to the guardrail. It’s a “ghost bike,” the sign informs people like me who travel that road and stop to take a closer look.
