That big old black walnut tree at the back of a vacant lot in Albany is destined to be cut down, but on Nov. 10 it was still there, so I thought I’d take another photo or two.

No controversy: Two developments get city’s OK

In what was pretty much a formality, the Albany Planning Commission has approved a 22-unit apartment complex on Southeast Salem Avenue and a 23-lot subdivision on Northwest Gibson Hill Road.

Last month Benton County had a lot of Douglas firs removed from the natural area at the corner of Crocker Lane and Valley View Drive in North Albany. So let’s do a quick check and see what the place looks like now.

Those trees on Waverly are likely to go

The stand of bushes and trees you see on the east side of Waverly Drive between Salem Avenue and Pacific Boulevard is likely to disappear after the lot is rezoned for “medium-density” housing.

Denser housing: Owner renews rezoning bid

Six years ago the Albany City Council refused to rezone a single-family residential lot on Waverly Drive to allow construction of up to 35 apartments. Now the owner is giving it another try.

Close to town, there’s the open road

One of my bike routes from Albany goes out Riverside Drive and turns right on Bryant Drive for the return. I’m in town one minute and in the middle of the country 60 seconds later.
