Sheriff asks to expand permit parking zone

When I rode the bike to the top of the Pacific Boulevard overpass Saturday and looked down on Jackson Street, I saw no sign of trouble with parked cars. But trouble there has been, and the Albany City Council plans to do something about it.

Camp sites for homeless: Some numbers

Preparations continued this week on two city-owned lots Albany officials have designated as places where homeless people can stay when they’re barred from sleeping on other public land.

Ninth Avenue campers have until July 8

Homeless people camping in their cars on Ninth Avenue between Jackson Street and Pacific Boulevard in Albany can still do so, but not for much longer. The neighbors and the city council want them gone.

When a tree gets too big and destructive

Everybody loves the big old shade trees on Albany streets in the summer. Their downside is that their roots sometimes crack the pavement below, and then somebody decides they have to go.
