The crushing defeat of the governor’s and other Democrats’ bill to increase the gas tax and motor vehicle fees tells the Albany City Council something about the chances of a local fuel tax.

Street crew patches as council talks revenue

While the Albany City Council keeps talking about how to raise $6 million a year for street repairs, the city’s street crew keeps plugging away on temporary fixes by patching the broken asphalt one block at a time.

We all have heard vague estimates of the jaw-dropping increases in road taxes Democrats in the Oregon legislature are poised to pass. Now, we have a more definite idea how much more costly living in Oregon will become.

A pothole, a hubcap and proposed taxes

A hubcap lying in the middle of Walnut Street, not far from a rain-filled pothole, was a reminder that Albany faces decisions about possible ways to raise more money to repair streets.
