Albany’s exclusion-zone law likely will stay

The Albany City Council has shown no sign of wanting to go along with a request to repeal the city’s “enhanced law enforcement area,” a law it passed three years ago to keep persistent petty criminals out of the central part of town.

Back in March 2018, the Albany City Council passed an ordinance allowing persistent law breakers to be temporarily banned from the central part of town. Now the council has been asked to strike this law from the books.


New attack on crimes and messes

  Albany officials are poised to get tough — or tougher — on abandoned vehicles and houses, and on behavior that drags down the quality of life especially in the central part of town. You might call it a combined campaign against crime and the messes people leave behind.
