A downtown Albany landmark, the historic Oregon Electric Railway depot, will change hands if a pending sale goes through as intended. But there’s no word yet on how the building will be used after it is sold.

It was back in January that the idea of a dining spot in a downtown Albany alley first hit the local news on this website. Now it’s become a reality, and the organizers no doubt hope that the mild weather will last a while so people can try the place out.

You may be surprised to learn, as I was, that this is National Drive Electric Week. Sophie Dykast at City Hall mentioned it when she told me that Albany’s first city-sponsored electric vehicle charging station will open to the public tomorrow, at 8:30 Wednesday morning.

A century-old sign of Albany history saw the light of day again when workers took the stucco off the brick wall of the old King Griff Building on the northeast corner of Third Avenue and Lyon Street.


A vehicle-charging station for downtown

If you have an electric car, pretty soon you’ll be able to park it in downtown Albany and charge the batteries — unless somebody else has had the same idea and got there first. In which case you’d have to wait your turn.
