On a bike ride Tuesday I had a chance to check in on the ambitious project to restore and enlarge what is said to be the oldest surviving wood-framed commercial building in downtown Albany.


Saving historic ‘Briggs Building’ downtown

A while back someone asked my why there was a giant tarp shrouding the front of a building in the 300 block of Albany’s N.W. First Avenue. The shroud was gone when I stopped the bike there Sunday, and everyone now can see the remodeling going on.


A new old look for a downtown address

If the owners follow through on their plans, the building believed to be the oldest wood-framed commercial structure still standing in downtown Albany will get a new look. An old look, that is.
