Plans for Albany’s riverfront call for improving crossings on the Water Avenue rail line, opening new ones and closing others. But the new or improved crossings won’t have to be protected with automatic arms.

On the riverfront: Treatment for opioid addicts

Based on a notation on a remodeling permit, I reported in April that an “outpatient addiction treatment facility” was going into the historic Avery Mill Building on the Albany riverfront. Today I found out a little more.

Plan to increase parking on riverfront lot

The Albany Planning Division has invited public comment on what seems to be the first work proposed as part of the city’s Waterfront Project — making changes on Water Avenue between the two highway bridges including the city-owned parking lot there.

Glancing at the river from an aging pier

On the wooden pier jutting out over the Willamette River at the foot of Broadalbin Street in Albany on Sunday night, this question asked itself: When is this structure going to get some work done to make it last another 30 years?

Probably not what the builders expected

Preparing the site for the construction of The Banks apartment complex on Albany’s riverfront produced what may have been a surprise to the builders: They uncovered the opening of an underground void or tunnel.
