To get to the Simpson Park Trail, you pass what is advertised as the boater access on First Lake. But the conditions are such that there’s no great rush of boaters at this neglected Albany lake.

In the Age of the Lawsuit, maybe this was the inevitable result of a couple of trees on Albany’s Cox Creek coming down in a windstorm two weekends ago. On Saturday these signs had appeared at the western entrance of the Cox Creek Path.

At first glance, seeing yellow caution tape in Albany’s Takena Park made you think that a venerable giant of a tree had been declared a hazard and was about to be cut down. Not so, however. It was a problem of a lesser sort.

Sunrise upgrade: Pretty soon now
If you’re wondering what happened to the long-gestating plans to renovate Albany’s Sunrise Park, wonder no more. The city parks department hopes to call for bids on the project by the first week of February.
