  If you live within a few miles of Republic Services’ Coffin Butte Landfill and Pacific Region Compost, you occasionally know they’re not far away because of the odor. That’s an issue that came up briefly before the Albany City Council this week but didn’t get explored.

Some jurisdictions across the country have been dismantling red-light cameras, but in Albany the police chief would like the council to authorize renewal of the city’s contract with Redflex Traffic Systems for another seven years without competitive bidding.


Rain tax: A hint on its likely size

Still no word on what Albany’s proposed rain tax will cost you when – not if – it starts being collected, probably starting next spring. No definite word, at least, but an unauthorized hint based on arithmetic alone.
