The stand of bushes and trees you see on the east side of Waverly Drive between Salem Avenue and Pacific Boulevard is likely to disappear after the lot is rezoned for “medium-density” housing.

Six years ago the Albany City Council refused to rezone a single-family residential lot on Waverly Drive to allow construction of up to 35 apartments. Now the owner is giving it another try.

Residents on and near Waverly Drive between Salem Avenue and Pacific Boulevard may get to keep their neighborhood the way it is for now — without a zone change that would allow up to 35 apartment units to be built on what now is a wooded parcel with one old house.

Residents of the neighborhood near the 200 block of Southeast Waverly Drive in Albany will get another chance to speak out on a zone change that would allow apartments to be built on a wooded parcel of about 1.4 acres.
