Return to Sunrise Park, a four-minute tour

Written April 13th, 2021 by Hasso Hering

Over the last three years I’ve made a few visits to Albany’s Sunrise Park while the place was being rebuilt to better serve the neighborhood. Last week, on my way somewhere else, I stopped by again and was impressed by what it has become.

The Sunrise neighborhood is said to be one of Albany’s poorest, though by the look of the tidy homes on nearby streets you might think that is no longer so.

In order to help the people living nearby, the Albany Parks Department spent close to a quarter million dollars in federal community development funds to refurbish and remodel Sunrise Park in 2018, finishing up in 2019.

One neat feature of this 3-acre park is a well-paved path around the perimeter, and for kids on boards, scooters, bikes or roller blades this looks ideal.

It’s not bad for old guys either, as I hope you can see below. (hh)
