Architects from Eugene have applied to the City of Albany for a site plan review to build a new car dealership on Santiam Highway east of I-5.
The Albany Community Development Department posted a public notice of the application last week. The proposed site plan is for a Kiefer Nissan and Volvo dealership at 4250 Santiam Hay. SE.
The site measures slightly more than 5 acres at the southwest corner of Goldfish Farm Road. Part of the property has been occupied by Kiefer’s budget used-car lot. Two structures on that side of the property are to be demolished, according to the plans.
The limited liability corporation that bought the property in 2019 for $2.5 million is owned by John and Corinne Kiefer, of Reno, Nev. The Kiefers own car businesses Corvallis and elsewhere.
The city’s planning staff sent notices of the application to owners within 300 feet of the site and invited comments by Aug. 17. Approval of the site plan is up to the planning staff.
As the application notes, the site is surrounded by commercial uses. Walmart is to the south, Power Honda to the west, Coastal Farm to the east, and a gas station and used-car sales operate across the highway.
This will be the fourth new-car dealership in the neighborhood east of I-5. Besides Power Honda, there is Albany Toyota, on Santiam. And on Fescue Street there is Hyundai of Albany. (hh)

You did not notice the hyphen in “new-car dealerships.” Those are places that sell new cars. And when this one is built, there will be four of them.
Kiefer is all over in Eugene. Power has many lots up in Salem and ?
Would like to see a Kia dealer come to Albany. They make some nice EVs and other cars.
The new and used auto market is so crazy now $$$, not sure where I’m going to buy my car. But it is going to be an EV (my first) if my Oregon rebate gets approved.
