The great pigeon mystery

Written December 2nd, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Of all the light poles in and near downtown Albany, why do flocks of pigeons habitually perch on two or three of them on the northeast end of the Pacific Boulevard overpass? They seem to hang out there all the time, year in and year out, and there must be a reason, but it’s a […]

Let the post office share the load

Written December 1st, 2014 by Hasso Hering

This time of year, waiting in line at the Albany Post Office tends to take longer, presumably because of the pre-Christmas rush. I’m wondering why the Postal Service does not make things easier for the public by giving contract offices the authority to handle more of the load.

Written November 25th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Albany’s truck-eating overpass did it again this afternoon, illustrating yet another shortcoming of relying for driving directions on GPS.

Change in store at Albany airport

Written November 24th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

Albany Municipal Airport may finally get a “fixed base operator” next year if negotiations now under way bear fruit. It’s been without one since December 2010, and while volunteers covered the office for part of that period, no one was around when I stopped by last Saturday.
