If the experimental radar sign the Albany City Council caused to be installed on Second Avenue has had any effect in slowing traffic, the change is so small it is hard to detect.

Making new house fit old neighborhood

A ride this week took me down Fourth Avenue in Albany’s Hackleman Historic District, and I stopped to photograph a newly built house that looked close to being completed. I was struck by how nicely it fits in with the older houses on the street.

The new pavement on the Highway 20 couplet in downtown Albany has but one little flaw: Some of the manhole covers ended up way below the surface, making for a slightly bumpy ride. But they’re working on a fix.

  Lots of progress has been made since I last checked in at 830 Fourth Ave. S.E. in Albany’s Central Neighborhood. Paul Dykast and his helpers have cleaned the place out, and they’ve begun working on fixing the old structure up.
