Looking west from Oak Grove Drive at 5:18 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2026.
My story Wednesday about the view of the Capitol from Salem Hospital brought flood of comments with best wishes for a quick recovery. I am overwhelmed, and very grateful.
Besides the prayers and kind words, which I appreciate, there were also suggestions for how hh-today.com could carry on while hh is pretty much out of action where getting around town on a bike is concerned.
One such idea was for readers to ask me about local things they were wondering about, things or circumstances that I could try to check out from my desk. Readers could even send me photos to illustrate their questions.
That’s not a bad idea. Thanks, Lise.
In the meantime, I’ll try to carry on with some ideas of my own.
The photo at the top of this story came about on a short ride around my neighborhood last month. The Internet, especially Facebook, does not suffer from a shortage of sunset photos, so I had no use for this one.
Until now, that is, when I can use it as a graphic on a story that’s just saying thanks. Thank you all. (hh)

Thank you, Hasso, mostly. You have been an inspiration to many, and an informant to many more. A great sunrise photo, and even better sunrise. Best wishes and good luck!
You captured a wonderful picture! Thanks for sharing it!
Hasso, I’ve appreciated your bike adventures ever since I started receiving them. I’m delighted you are taking it easy as it seems you listen better than most. Lol. I just retired after 19 years working at a large urology clinic and loved the one on one with my patients doing CT and X-ray and imaging c-arm in surgeries. All this after my 30 plus years at OREMET. The reporter in you never stopped as we as the caring for your community. Bless you for serving others.
I’ll suggest you’re simply taking a very well earned & deserved hiatus (vacation?) from your erstwhile community work. Do it. :-)
Ever so humble! Hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Great photo, Hasso. Thanks. Glad you are on the mend as evidenced by your wanting to get the typing fingers warmed up and into a story.
Hi Hasso. What about a series of short “catching up with” stories where you reconnect with folks who’ve been in the news at one point or another during your years in Albany? Take care and let me know if you need anything!
If you get bored, what’s to full story of Albany loosing a fire engine in a field fire two summers ago? It came up during the no-bid replacement request at the last city council meeting.
Good to hear from you Hasso. Beautiful picture. Maybe you could share some interesting stories about the history of Albany. Take care and get plenty of rest.
hh-you might explore surfacing the City v. Win Eaton. tc
