New gas station planned on South Pacific

Written May 5th, 2025 by Hasso Hering

On Monday afternoon, the bike took me to 4750 Pacific Blvd. S.W., where new owners plan to build a convenience store and gas station.

A vacant former shop building on Southwest Pacific Boulevard in Albany is likely to be gone soon, and a new convenience store and gas station will take up the space.

That’s according to an application for a site plan review at 4742 Pacific Blvd. S.W. The application also seeks to consolidate three adjoining lots on the west side of the highway. The new lot would measure just over one acre.

The City of Albany Community Development Department published a notice of the request on April 29. The city said it notified property owners within 300 feet and invited anyone with comments to submit them by May 13.

Plans for the project show the existing small building at 4750 Pacific S.W. is to be removed. If memory serves, it used to house a generator repair business that has been closed for some time.

A company that runs convenience stores under the name US Markets bought the three lots last December for $825,000, according to information available online at the Linn County Assessor’s Office.

The new owner is Albany Petroleum LLC, whose address is that of US Market Enterprises in Salem. The principal is Mehar D. Sidha.

The property covered by the application is zoned “community commercial,” and the decision on the request is up to the city’s planning staff. (hh)

Greetings Hasso. I enjoy your columns and have missed your presence at the Democrat-Herald. Unless you’ve already done a column and I’ve missed it could you do a story on the old 1916 Post Office building on 2nd Avenue? (Now incorrectly labeled as “Old City Hall”.) What is its future and what’s with all that chain link fencing? THANKS!

Your memory is correct sir! ‘Back in the day’ it was Albany Magneto. My dad was a customer, usually during haying season.

Thanks for the name of the business Tim. We’ve lived out on that end of town for 40+years. One of my husband’s friends worked there “back in the day” and I think of him every time I drive by there.

Truck N Tractor Electric moved out around the end of the year. They are still in business and have relocated to 35158 Oakville Rd SW.

Where are the rest of the comments submitted on this post? Several have been deleted which questioned the traffic issues this may cause. Has a traffic study been done?
