Diagonal parking spaces are coming to one side of three streets around the Albany Post Office, and the city’s urban renewal advisory board decided Wednesday that the new spaces will be of the back-in type.
Since last you read about the “Old-Book House,” there’s been progress on this reconstruction project at 1405 Front Ave. N.E. Among other things, as you can see, the old side wing has been scrapped and replaced with a new concrete foundation and slab and the beginnings of the framing of the new garage.
The Signs of Victory “Freedom Road House” homeless shelter would leave central Albany and move across the tracks, literally, under a plan endorsed Wednesday by the advisory board of CARA, the Central Albany Revitalization Area. But before it happens, a few details remain to be nailed down.
Albany is going with the flow and headed for having a rain tax, although the preferred and more accurate term is “storm water utility fee.” The city’s intent to go ahead on this front was made plain at a work session of the city council Monday afternoon.
That pesky little squiggle
I was going to let this go. After all, patients waiting in the clinic for an appointment have enough to worry about without fretting over an improvised sign. But then the latest copy of “Bicycling” came in the mail, making me think that silence is not an option. Somebody has to speak up.
