Crocker project: A status check

Written November 12th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

This is the case of a deadline past and gone. The northern 2,100 feet of Crocker Lane was supposed to be turned into a fully developed city street with a new water line underground by Nov. 3. Looks like finishing the job will take a bit more time.

City-owned site looking for a use

Written November 10th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

The Albany City Council has yet to decide what if anything to do with a block of vacant land it caused the BNSF railroad to hand over in 2013. But for now a previous benefit of the parcel — overflow parking at the popular Calapooia Brewing Co. restaurant across Water Avenue — has been lost.

Written November 8th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

Written November 5th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

Looks like Albany’s latest accommodation for the aged is getting ready to open.  Waverly Assisted Living and Memory Care, at 2853 Salem Ave. S.E., is on one of my bike routes, and I’ve watched its construction for about a year and a half.

Bike paths in another 40 years?

Written November 4th, 2017 by Hasso Hering

It’s been 40 years since Albany, with the help of the state highway department, built the Periwinkle Bike Path. Now a class of university students has recommended another “increase in bicycle infrastructure,” but I wonder if anything will come of that.
