Coming back to Sunrise Park: Here’s why

Albany’s Sunrise Park is interesting for at least two reasons. First, it’s being renovated specifically to help the surrounding neighborhood, one of Albany’s poorest. And second, the process of getting it done illustrates the insanity of state and federal rules on “wetlands.”


Albany’s old bikeway has a new sign

Over 40 years or so, wind and weather had left their mark on the sign marking one entrance to Albany’s first bikeway. Now the sign looks like new again — because it is.


Panera follows through with site plan

As expected when a big sign went up in the spring, the Albany Planning Division has now received a site plan for the construction of a Panera Bread Café.

$10,000 toward a greater front view

You won’t be looking at the famous “cheese grater” at 415 First Avenue W. for much longer. The downtown urban renewal agency Wednesday gave the building’s tenants $10,000 toward refurbishing the building’s front the way it looked after it was built around 1866.
