Public records too hard to get

Written March 16th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

In Oregon we’ve had a public records law since 1973. It says that every piece of writing and other information in the hands of state and local governments is a public record, and with certain exceptions the public has a right to see them all. But by now the exceptions are legion. Sometimes getting particular […]

On the road, a flashy “stop”

Written March 16th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Part of the fun of taking a road trip is in stopping in the towns along the way and taking a look around. I did that a couple of days ago in Williams, a town about halfway between Sacramento and Redding in the Sacramento Valley.

Bill could help cyclists at lights

Written March 16th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Bike bridge — an idea too far out?

Written March 12th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

It’s wishful thinking, I know, but a bike bridge across the Willamette River might actually avoid all kinds of other complications as the search continues for a more or less direct Albany-Corvallis Trail.

Daylight time again, but why?

Written March 12th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

By now you may have gotten over the effects of the time change last Sunday. And if you were lucky, you didn’t fall victim to the increase in the frequency of traffic crashes that is said to be following the springtime switch. This is what our lawmakers are counting on. They count on us to get over […]
