Strolling around the Capitol grounds in Salem the other day, I came across the late Dorothy Anne Hobson in the form of this plaque on the ground. She had a lot more to say back in the day, when she was a young girl, all of it straight to the point.

The conditions for allowing detached accessory dwelling units — essentially little houses in backyards — continue to divide Mayor Sharon Konopa from four members of the city council. They’ll try for a compromise in January, but what shape that will take no one knows.

Planners for Oregon Passenger Rail are aiming to double the number of round trips up and down the Willamette Valley, from three to six. That’s one of the details I was reminded of at an open house on the project Tuesday night.
