Bulletin from the path beat: Fence is fixed

Written October 27th, 2025 by Hasso Hering

Last month this chain link fence along the Cox Creek Path was still smashed in two places. Now it’s fixed.

Nobody has been waiting for this bit of non-news from my bike rides on Albany bikeways, but here it is anyway: The fence on Cox Creek Path has been repaired.

The fence lines one side of the path along the southern edge of the Talking Water Gardens.  On the other side of the path, there’s the sloping bank of Cox Creek. And lots of big old cottonwoods.

At least five times since 2016, big trees fell across the path and smashed the fence. Most recently this happened last December and again early this year, leaving twisted posts and gaps in the fence that were still there last month.

The city planned to have a contractor make repairs. And on a ride Monday, I saw that the job had been done.

Big news? Not exactly, right? But when the city’s bike routes are your beat, you report what you see. (hh)

Plenty of tall and dying trees remain on the path’s upwind side. So who knows when the need for fence repairs will come up again.

Nice pictures. Also nice to see the area through your photos while the fence is again in good shape.

I am so glad whenever I see things fixed up and made strong again…including me, LOL

Hasso, I look forward to your email posts daily. Perhaps I live vicariously through your journey’s around the paths of our town. Thank you.

Hasso, so why are the trees near the fence dying? What is more financially feasible for the city,—removing the dying trees or constantly fixing the fence?

  5. Kathleen says:

The trees need to be removed. Plant new trees. Just makes sense.

I wonder if they’ll fix the fence behind Lowes where the “campers” have cut holes in it at 2 different spots. One right next to 9th St. on the Lowes side so they can use the bush by the end to hide, instead of walking around it.
