Down with glass breakers …

See that little sliver of broken glass I’m holding up? It’s what made a hole in my bike’s rear tire and tube on Monday afternoon.

I’m guessing there is a special place in hell reserved for people who throw glass bottles out of their cars to shatter on the shoulder. If there isn’t, there should be.

In this case, a mess of glass fragments lurked near the west end of Albany’s Queen Avenue, just before Queen turns into Oakville Road. Being loath to veer into the car lane during fairly brisk traffic, I rode right over this field of broken glass hoping to luck out. But luck was busy somewhere else.

Broken glass is not exactly rare on Oregon roads. It implies there is a fairly substantial part of the population making it a habit to drain a bottle while in a moving car and then heaving the empty out the window. And if they’re willing to do this, imagine what other stupid, dangerous, reckless, destructive and even vicious things they also do. (hh)

Gloves off. Tire levers, check; spare tube, check, pump, check.

The world is full of inconsiderate people. Sorry you were their victim.

Worked with folks who measured distance in 6-packs and heaved every empty out. Guess they have descendants, tho’ this was clear glass instead of brown…..

Having hd a few kids with bikes I “learned” from Morgans Bike shop of puncture proof tires & tubes. These may not come in your size though? You haven’t experienced anything until taking said kids out fishing & foolishly allowing them barefoot on the rivers edge. More than one cut foot!!!…JE

I use tubes with fiber-glycol sealant (“Slime” and generics) which seem to work fairly well; had far more trouble with metal objects than glass. Maybe large knobby tires have also helped.
