A postal snag, but it may be solved

Here’s something I didn’t know until Friday: Postal delivery vehicles are not supposed to back up. And this was the reason given for why six households along a newly constructed segment of Riverside Drive didn’t get their mail delivered most of this week.


Albany PO: No plans to move

Mayor Sharon Konopa would like the Albany Post Office to find another site in town, but the U.S. Postal Service has no plans to move and says it would find it difficult to do so.

Albany this year has managed to light up the riverside Dave Clark Path and nearby Monteith Riverpark, so maybe now something could be done to pierce the darkness that descends on the parking lot of the Albany Post Office after the sun goes down.

For years the U.S. Postal Service paid about $10,000 a month in rent on an empty Albany building for which it no longer had a use, but those days now are gone.

Self-service at PO: Not a sure thing

The good thing about the lobby of the Albany Post Office is that it is cool and that it is open after hours. The bad thing is that it houses a supposedly automated self-service kiosk that does not always work.


When will the mail stop coming?

Among all your worries, this one may not rank near the top, but it’s worth keeping in mind: How long will the post office be able to keep delivering mail to your rural mailbox on the side of the road? What if those delivery trucks wear out and can’t be replaced?
