Turkeys or no turkeys, a proposed ordinance making it illegal to feed wildlife in the city of Albany is not going to become law. But a ban on parking without a permit on sections of five streets near the Signs of Victory homeless shelter probably will, at least for a while.

Construction is still very much in progress, but George Matland is confident that the new Signs of Victory mission in Albany will be finished in time for homeless people to find shelter there by the end of June.


CARA loan raises shelter’s costs

The Signs of Victory mission has received final approval of a five-year, $100,000 loan at 2.9 annual percent interest to help build a new Albany homeless shelter, but because of a state rule on wages the city contract is also driving up the project’s cost.

CARA board backs shelter move

The Signs of Victory  “Freedom Road House” homeless shelter would leave central Albany and move across the tracks, literally, under a plan endorsed Wednesday by the advisory board of CARA, the Central Albany Revitalization Area. But before it happens, a few details remain to be nailed down.
