Here’s the thing about Albany: It’s a railroad town, and cruising around town on a bike inevitably means you’re going to see trains.

It’s impressive to see and hear a Union Pacific freight roaring toward a crossing where you are standing, holding up your phone, just a few feet off the track. Here, see for yourself:


If it moves, get out of the way

If this train had been moving, it would have been pretty stupid to be standing here taking its photo. But, having crossed the Willamette River on the Albany rail bridge, the train was parked on the track just short of Second Avenue. What an opportunity to take closer look!
