Last summer’s fatal accident outside of Albany reminded us that single painted lines don’t offer cyclists much protection from motor vehicles. So how about double lines?

Seeing green, or not, on Madison Street

Green paint on the pavement is supposed to enhance traffic safety for bicyclists. But five months after paint was applied on Madison Street in Albany, it doesn’t exactly scream for attention.

Checking up on Madison safety project

Madison Street in Albany has been the subject of stories here since 2019 because it’s the site of a project funded by ODOT to increase traffic safety, especially where bicyclists and car drivers are concerned.

Wider shoulders: Maybe next year

Another bike-related update: We’ll have to wait at least another year before Benton County restores the wide shoulders that disappeared from a section of Independence Highway last year. And yes, it does matter to everybody on the road.
