Maple Lawn, the city-owned house and grounds on Salem Avenue, has been home to a preschool for a long time, but not much longer. The Albany school district has paid for the operation since 2021 but will stop doing so when this school year ends.
Tucked away in the southeast corner of Albany, Deerfield Park is far from my usual bicycle routes, but the bike and I made it there on Feb. 24. I wanted to look around after hearing about plans for making changes in the park.
Construction work on the Water Avenue rail line does not stop on weekends, as I could not help but notice on my regular bike route Sunday afternoon.
Now is a great time to ride your bike down Lochner Road in south Albany, as I discovered Saturday. The reason is no cars.
