Memorial’s gone; case lingers on

Written June 18th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

The “ghost bike” is gone from the spot where Albany bicyclist Grant Keith Garner was killed four months ago, and so are the other parts of the roadside memorial that showed up a few days after his death. I noticed them missing on my ride Thursday afternoon. When I inquired, I learned that the Linn […]

Something’s new in Palestine

Written June 17th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

You miss things if you do don’t get around your neighborhood every few days. For example, here’s a new and still unfinished funeral pavilion at the historic North Palestine Cemetery on the outskirts of North Albany.

Oregon legislators didn’t give much thought to bicycles this session, and that’s all right. Given lawmakers’ drive to make ever more laws, being ignored by them is not a bad thing. The session in Salem is just about over, and it looks like bikes and their riders are being left pretty much alone.

S. Albany getting better cell coverage

Written June 15th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Verizon’s cell phone customers in part of South Albany have had to wait a while for better reception, but if the wait is not already over, it should be over soon. When I looked a couple of weeks ago, construction was well along on the base of what was planned as a 120-foot transmission tower […]
