Lost-book story ripples across U.S.

Written February 23rd, 2016 by Hasso Hering

The discovery of a long-overdue library book in an old Albany house has caused ripples of interest across the country, it appears. How the book ended up inside the wall of the 115-year-old house remains a mystery, but at least two people — a lady in Arkansas and another in Texas — did some sleuthing on […]

This rosy glow grabs my attention

Written February 22nd, 2016 by Hasso Hering

It was last Aug. 21 when I wrote about this restaurant, which had been vacant and closed for so long that a reader had asked me what was going on. The owner, Ed Wright, told me he hoped to open it soon. Then, on Monday, back in town after a week away, I’m driving around […]

Written February 21st, 2016 by Hasso Hering

Facts? The majority doesn’t care

Written February 18th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

It’s obvious that the majority party in the Oregon legislature has no interest in facts when it comes to making laws. The demise of House Bill 4101 is a good example, as though another one was needed.

Too little space for all that stuff

Written February 17th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

It’s no big deal, obviously, but this may not be the best way to set up a public library’s book return for when the building is closed, especially if the closure extends over a three-day weekend.
