Whatever happened to the idea of public art in the shape of giant metal wildflowers sprouting near the Lyon Street entrance to downtown Albany? The $80,000 project was in the news last year, and now it’s up to ODOT to decide whether to permit it in the intended spot.


Lift parking limits near West? Council says no

Because of all the construction at West Albany High, students driving to school this year are having more trouble than usual finding a place to park. A proposal to help them by temporarily suspending parking limits in the neighborhood north of the school found no favor with the city council this week.


The muddle over middle housing

When it passed House Bill 2001, the 2019 legislature outlawed the kind of zoning that allows only single-family houses in Oregon cities above 10,000 population. But as the Albany City Council was reminded Monday, it did not restrict the construction of single-family houses.
