Should Albany install radar-operated signs that tell drivers how fast they are going, especially if they’re breaking the speed limit? The city council plans to consider the question Monday.

If that’s not a pedestrian crossing, what else could it possibly be? That was my question when I saw this sign Wednesday at the newly completed railroad crossing at Hill Street and Water Avenue in Albany.

The riverfront is my beat, and Wednesday it offered an unusual sight: The hull of a derelict speedboat loaded with a collection of old tires and a toilet complete with its tank.
