A speed record? Hardly!

Written November 26th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

When I’m on the bike, those speed-control trailers set up by the police always represent a challenge. And yes, unlike most traffic signal loops, those radar trailers actually do register something as small as a bike.

Well, this little test on Wednesday was disappointing. I didn’t come close to the 25 mph, which I take it is the goal. But that’s because I did not get a long enough running start, had trouble getting my left cleat to click in, and then was holding the camera with one hand. Excuses, excuses …

Anyway, happy Thanksgiving. (hh)

Maybe if you tried texting with the other hand?
I’ve had one of those that showed I was walking @ 7MPH.

Maybe Santa will leave a helmet mounted camera like race car drivers use? Happy thanksgiving.

You said 1st ave in the narration, but that is Water Ave, not 1st. It would be fun to get video of the train going by the speed radar sign some time……

True enough. Thanks for noticing the mistake. I realized too late — like the next day — that I had misspoken. As for the occasional freight trains on Water Avenue, I’ve timed them on the bike at between 8 and 10 mph. (hh)
