On my bike ride to Millersburg Saturday, I happened to see, from a distance, railroad cars sitting under the giant crane at the Mid-Valley Intermodal Center, which otherwise has remained unused since it opened in December 2022.


Cities face new mandate on river trash

As if cities like Albany don’t have enough to do, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality is proposing to list sections of the Willamette River as “impaired” by trash. This will trigger new regulations under the federal Clean Water Act, and cities likely will bear the brunt of a new mandate.


A Millersburg ride: The tanks are history

A bike ride Saturday took me to the corner of Conser and Old Salem roads in Millersburg, where the Kinder Morgan pipeline company owns a pumping station and a former tank farm that stored petroleum products years ago. Now the tanks are gone.
